An Introduction

Welcome to my blog, "Ink Is My Perfume."  I'm Clayton Hollifield, your host and emcee, and I intend to rock the mike right.  Where to begin?  Well, as all enterprising young journalists learn, let's start with the 5 W's.

Who?
Like I said before, my name is Clayton Hollifield.  But if you don't already know me, that might not be particularly helpful.  I'm a cartoonist and a printmaker.  In comics, I've self-published 5 full-size comics, and a couple dozen mini-comics.  I'm the creator of Alien Boy, and the co-creator of Zenjeff.  As a printmaker, I've had pieces in a couple of group shows, and I've had pieces featured in Phirebrush issues #57 and #58.  I've been at it for about 2 years now.  Education-wise, I graduated from the University of Washington in 1999 with an English/Creative Writing degree.

What?
This blog is basically intended to house my daily ink drawings.  Consider me inspired by the drawing/painting-a-day wave on the 'net, and I'm always looking for ways to make sure that I get work done regularly.  The vast majority of the posts here will be of my ink drawings, but I reserve the right to also post scans of any other art I finish, as well as to pimp whatever work of mine needs pimping.  Anything else will be confined to my LiveJournal blog.

Where?
Here, of course.  Eventually, the stuff I do will make it's way to my Flickr page, but this is where the cool kids will be.  If you mean where am I, I live just outside of Vancouver, Washington.

When?
Ideally, I'm aiming for 5 days a week (Monday through Friday), starting 02/11/08.

Why?
Aside from the earlier mentioned need to find ways to get work done regularly, and the obvious attempt to get my work in front of as many eyes as possible, there's also a not-entirely-altruistic reason for the blog.  Long story short, my "work computer" is getting up there in years (I've had it since 2002!).  I'm much less concerned about the outdated software and hardware than the very real possibility that I'm going to sit down to work and find a molten pile of grey plastic where my tower should be.  I don't do a ton of digital work, but I dabble, and my old machine's half-crippled functionality is really dampening my ability to document and promote my own work.  So I'm on a quest for a younger, prettier, and all-around sexier new computer.  But those cost money, and I'm ready to sing draw for my new computer.  Every piece of art on this blog will be up for sale at a pretty darned reasonable price.  Every dime will go in the fund to keep myself from having to panic-buy a new computer on credit (and for hosting fees, but the cost of that is kind of insignificant compared to the computer).  Once I reach that goal, the money will be spent entirely on fancy coffee drinks and lottery tickets.

A wise man once asked, "What's the best city in the world?  Generosity."  Now that's deep.
