No Takebacks

So I've had these prints laying around that don't fit on my scanner, and until recently, I haven't had a decent enough digital camera to do anything more than snap cell phone pics with.  But I have a new camera, and I'm going to get those oversized prints photographed so that I can share them.

This particular print was a class assignment - a class of grade-schoolers did drawings based on famous paintings, and we were supposed to use the kid's drawing as a jumping off point for our own work.  This one was based on a drawing based on Frida Kahlo's "The Broken Column."  First off, I thought it was hilarious that they showed a topless, grotesque painting to a grade-schooler!  I wish I had scanned the drawing that I was working from - it was basically a rectangle and some squiggles that I turned into the female figure, and I took off from there.  I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out.  It's definitely weird, but people seem to respond pretty well to it.  Anyhoo, it's called "No Takebacks," 9" x 12", intaglio, 2008, an edition of 5.

No Takebacks

My knee is doing better, but it's still not right.  I had an MRI done on it, and I'll find out pretty quickly what the matter is.  Anyhow, it's at least down to a manageable dull roar, which is definitely an improvement.  It's amazing what a week on your butt, ice, and various painkillers can do to help out.  As an aside, I'm trying to relearn how to use a mouse left-handed.  I learned years ago when I broke my thumb on my right hand (my drawing hand), but I let it go.  However, I spend a crazy amount of time using that hand (between art activities and computer activities), and I'm a little paranoid about carpal tunnel syndrome.  I figure that if I can lessen how much I use my right hand, maybe the occasional tingling I get won't progress into something worse.  It's worth a try, right?

PCC's ArtBeat is this week - I'll be sure to snap some pictures from the Student Art Show reception.  My piece got in, and I'm looking forward to getting some feedback on it.  Until then...
