Art Beat 2009

Today was the opening for the 2009 PCC Sylvania Student Art Show, and I had a piece in it.  I finished it right before the submission deadline, so I don't have time to snap a picture of the finished product, so that'll have to wait until at least the end of the month, when the show comes down.  But if you don't want to wait that long, the show will be up for the rest of the month, and there is a lot of very strong work there.  Unfortunately, the reception didn't have any devilled eggs, a staple of PCC art openings, and I'm going to have to have words with someone about that!

Once that was done, we had a workshop/lecture thing with printmaker Michael Southern.  It was a lot of fun, and we learned a new technique - spit bite.  It sounds a lot grosser than it actually is.  I'm looking forward to giving it a try!

Then all the festivities were over, and it was time to get down to work.  My work today:  using an X-Acto knife to trim down some woodcuts that I had printed earlier in the week.  If it sounds tedious, well, perhaps you'll understand why I usually have pretty small editions!  These guys are going to be glued onto another etching (I still haven't figured out how to conjugate "chine colle"), and I'm going to spend tomorrow printing that beast (it's the plate I posted before, "No Takebacks").  I've got 8 sets of each of those little beasties, so if I get 5 of the tries to work (glue and wet paper can be kind of tempermental), I'll have to consider that a success.

Scraps

I also went to the Art Beat lecture/demo by Arvie Smith on Wednesday.  It was on life drawing, so I have a few that I did in my sketchbook, and I'll post a couple of those as soon as I get some quality time with my scanner.
