Spaced Invaders
Time for another print, this one's called "Spaced Invaders," and is 9" x 12".
This is sort of an evolution of an older plate I did a year or so ago, called "No Takebacks." PCC has had printmaker Kurt Kemp visit a couple of times over the last three years, as well has had a gallery show of his work this year, and one of the things that he does that I find really interesting is what's called Variable Editions. Basically, it's using a copper plate as a common starting point for pieces of artwork. One of the methods that I've adopted is creating woodcuts specifically to be incorporated with an etched image. So, what happens when you combine an etched plate and small woodcuts?

In this instance, I wasn't really interested in having a batch of exactly the same image, so I wanted to have different arrangements of the above woodcuts on each print. It was a long day of printing, but out of the eight prints I made that day, six came out well. Without further ado, here's all six versions of "Spaced Invaders"...

Maybe it's overkill to show them all in row, but what the hey? It's an art blog, you've got to expect some images from time to time...
