Want (diptych)

"Want," 4" x 8" (diptych), woodcut, 2009.  Edition of 1.

Want

This is another version of "Want," with the blocks printed side by side (and in the same color) instead of on top of one another.  I don't have a lot to do say about it other than it's interesting how this image becomes more about reaching out to someone, while the other version is more blatantly about rejection.  It might have to do with the more subdued color scheme (it's kind of hard to tell, but the Japanese paper I printed on has a light blueish tint to it), but I still find it amazing how much you can change the meaning of an image by changing the overall shape of it.

I'll have this piece (and many others) with me at this weekend's West Linn Arts Festival.  I hate to keep mentioning it, but I guess if I have to watch 20 boner pill ads every night on TV, a couple of timely mentions of an upcoming art festival isn't too intrusive.  So drop by and say hi if you get the chance!
