Escape!

"Escape!" 8" x 10", mixed media monotype (ink and color pencil), 2011.

Escape!

After my disastrous last attempt at a monotype, I decided to do a quick, smaller one to make sure that I could create an image without having the paper self-destruct.  I based it on a detail from a Warrington Colescott print, but hopefully I've changed it enough to have it stand on it's own.  I like using the monotype process to sort of do a rough color sketch of an image, and then refine it by doing additional drawing by hand afterwards.  It's a way to keep things loose, which isn't really the first word you'd use to describe printmaking in general.  Hope you enjoy...

Thanks, it turned out pretty well!

I think the main secret is just not to try to run a piece of paper through the press a million times (while trying to keep the paper wet for an hour-plus).  I'm looking forward to a productive week, so I'm sure I'll see you at the studio!
