The whole tone and language of the letter was weird, so I was skeptical. I know that everyone gets targeted for scams, but I just don't get scamming artists. For one thing, if someone likes a piece of artwork enough to want it, what good is obtaining it through underhanded means? And if they didn't like it, what possible resale value could it have? It's not like my stuff demands any kind of a premium over the prices that I ask, so it seems like a lot of effort to go through to get something to throw on eBay or something and to sell for a pittance. The whole thing is baffling...

"Horton Hatches an Egg" is a great cartoon! I can't get enough of those old Looney Tunes, but Horton is especially fantastic!

What?!? Thank goodness you thought to do a little research and did not get scammed. It is totally unfair to prey on artists - we are vulnerable to the idea someone likes our work. Also - I need to re-visit Horton Hatches an Egg. Strong print... I especially admire the balloons.

It's kind of a rock and roll/burlesque environment, but it's definitely not all 20-somethings there. Besides, everyone's there to draw, grab a beer, and relax a bit, so as long as you've got a sketchbook and a drink, I doubt you'd feel too out of place! And if nothing else, it would be fun for a few of us from class to go check out one as a group. I've been wanting to take an plate with me and load it up with loose figure sketches to etch later...
